Everyday Beauty - GC Guest Blogger Jodi Sooley

I never thought I was destined to be creative. I had dreams of wearing a suit and working in the corporate world, which I still do. I use photography as my creative outlet in order to relax after a stressful day at the office. I never realized how quickly that finding something you enjoyed doing in life could be so uplifting and rewarding. My feet want to move and dance, my body wants to explore, my mind wants to learn and my soul wants to reach out and grab every corner of the world.

After moving to Greely, I realized my passion was being able to document the world around me through the lens of a camera. I wanted to be able to take the everyday beauty I see and present it to the world, or at least my community. I picked up my husband's camera and started taking pictures of my family, community and friends and the world opened up before my eyes. Soon I noticed something amazing; there was so much to see! I started noticing the little creases around an old man’s eyes as he laughed. I noticed the awkwardly cute hand holding between a couple on their first date. I noticed the way a mother looks at her child as if there was nothing else in the world but the two of them. I saw connections. I saw beauty. I saw fun. I realized what I was witnessing wasn't just one emotion, it was a combination of so many moving parts - it was love.

Finally, I had figured out my purpose. Love is what drives me and it's what I aim to capture in the photos I take. I want to capture the love and joy I see and feel in the world because at the darkest of times its all we have. Love is hope. It is fun, it is laughter, it is a partner's embrace, it is dancing on the bed in your underwear, it is having milk froth on your upper lip, it is her lipstick stains on your cheek, it is your fathers face as he sees you on your wedding day, it is waking up in the arms of your lover; it is everything!

Now, a few years later, I can't stop my eyes from seeing love in the simple life I live. I'm married to the most wonderful man and together we have two beautiful girls, as a family we dream of a world that is celebrating the fullness of life and love. We want to see everyone dancing and rejoicing in happiness. We want to show everyone that love is not some made up fairy-tale that keeps our children happy and sleeping soundly. Love exists and it is beautiful and I hope the stories I tell, through my pictures can remind you of that!
